Jennifer Moon x The Fire Monkey for Hammer Museum

Artist Jennifer Moon and bookbinder George Busby of The Fire Monkey have collaborated on a book project, a part of the “Made in LA” exhibition at Hammer Museum!

This is an especially interesting collaboration for Hiromi Paper as well, because when Jennifer had been searching for a local bookbinder, we were the ones that first recommended George at The Fire Monkey; whom we’ve had a close relationship with for many years. We are so glad this collaboration worked out, and together they created such a wonderful book!

The book itself is a half leather-binding with a gold leaf pressed emblem on the front, a logo that Jennifer had made especially for this show.
Inside papers are inkjet prints on all Amate Solid Natural.

Devon Tsuno: Horticulture Los Angeles

Horticulture Los Angeles, is Devon Tsuno‘s first solo exhibition in Japan and will include 9 spray paint and acrylic paintings on handmade papers from Hiromi Paper (Khadi Rag and Shikishi).  The exhibition will also include a book titled, Horticulture Los Angeles.  The book contains 185 pages of original photography shot by Devon in and outside of his studio over the past 5 years.  This handmade hardcover book using Hiromi Paper French book cloth (Libris cloth), documents the process of his work and his unique perspective of how nature exists in Los Angeles.

Opening Reception:  Monday, April 2 from 6pm

New Items now available online and in store here.

Rayon 50 & Rayon 39 are new additions to our decorative sheets, made of 100% Rayon in Japan.

Manilla Hemp Blue will be available regularly in Natural, similar in characteristics as the Asagami and Lens Tissue.

Salago Philippine Gampi is made of a majority of Philippine Gampi with a dash of Mitsumata & pulp. A promising new Gampi addition, similar to the discontinued Gampi #28 but thinner.

Gampi 2-Layered is a white surface gampi type of paper with a great price.

Other new items include the Screw Punch with 9 bits (replacements available), ECG Grey, Worldcloth SN Shantung 541-52.5, and Colored Kozo rolls with 2 widths (19.5″ & 38″)

Dynic SK Bookcloth

We have had some inquiries this year about special ordering Dynic bookcloth, but were unable to contact our Dynic representitive at the time. Luckily, we were able to get into contact with the company recently (and find out that it hasn’t been discontinued) and are now working on starting the special orders again. We are also planning to carry some of them regularly so we would be able to sell them by the yard to customers. Therefore, if you have any feedback on interested cloths you would like us to carry, please let us know soon.

Text Libris: More Colors Available

In addition to the Text Libris colors we carry regularly in stock, rolls of additional colors can also be ordered! For now, you can view the complete set at our store displayed in our Bookbinding section. Feel free to call in to make your order as well~

Minimum quantity for non-regularly stocked colors is 1 roll (10 meters).

This bookcloth is made in France and are 100% biodegradable and free of heavy metal.

Dynic SK Series

At HPI, the Dynic/Buckram SK bookcloth series was discontinued for regular stock and on a special order basis only. We recently tried to contact the SK bookcloth makers in Japan for some special orders, but did not receive any response despite the different attempts. So, at this time we will have to hold off any SK orders until further notice.
