On our last day in Fukui, Sugihara-san first took us to visit Umeda Washi, where our Echizen Color Gampi papers are from.

The Gampi papermaker in this mill, Naho Murata, uses the suketa in a way that I feel is very similar to Kochi Tengucho papermaking, shaking the frame vigorously and letting the water “dance”.

This mill’s characteristic is that they make Gampi and Mitsumata, however expensive and difficult the fibers are to handle. (Kozo papers are produced as well).
